BBL (BroadBand Light) is a modern broad-spectrum pulsed light technology. It is not a laser. The device allows the filter, intensity and other parameters to be selected according to skin phototype, condition and the specific concern being addressed.
During treatment, light energy is absorbed by selected skin structures—for example, excess pigment, blood pigment in small vessels or pigment in hair follicles. Firming protocols also use controlled heating of deeper skin layers. Contact cooling simultaneously protects the skin surface and increases comfort during the procedure.
This single technology enables different individual protocols: skin rejuvenation and brightening, correction of pigmentation and vessels, acne therapy, skin firming or long-term hair reduction.
BBL phototherapy is intended for women and men who want to specifically address any of the following concerns:
Before the procedure, a consultation assesses your phototype, health, medication and current tan. The eyes of both client and staff are protected with special protective equipment. Contact gel may be applied depending on the treatment type.
During individual flashes, you may feel more intense warmth, a brief sting or a sensation like a light snap of an elastic band. Sensitivity varies according to the area and settings. Afterwards, the skin is soothed and the practitioner recommends suitable home care.
Results develop gradually and depend on treatment type, phototype, initial skin condition and adherence to recommended care. Changes in pigmentation and redness are usually noticeable within approximately one to three weeks. Firming effects develop over several weeks to months. Hair reduction requires a series of treatments because light effectively targets only hairs in the active growth phase.
After the procedure, the skin may temporarily be red, slightly swollen or sensitive. Pigment spots may briefly darken and gradually shed over several days. The practitioner always determines the exact course and number of treatments after a personal consultation.
Who is the treatment for?
For women and men. Suitability depends on phototype, current tan, health and the concern being addressed.
Recommended duration of one treatment
Approximately 15–60 minutes, depending on the selected protocol and area size.
Recommended number of treatments
Usually one to eight treatments, depending on the indication; hair reduction may require a longer series.
Recovery
Usually minimal. Temporary redness, swelling or increased sensitivity may occur.
Treatment areas
Face, neck, décolletage, backs of hands and selected body areas.
Treatment is unsuitable or requires individual assessment, particularly in the following cases:
Non-invasive phototherapy targeting sun damage, uneven tone, minor pigmentation, redness and an overall tired appearance of the skin.
What is BBL skin rejuvenation and brightening?
Treatment uses a precisely selected broad-spectrum light range that targets excess pigment and small vascular structures. It may also support gradual collagen remodelling and overall improvement in skin quality.
The aim is not to change natural facial features, but to achieve a brighter, more even and fresher skin appearance. The protocol can be adapted to the face, neck, décolletage, backs of hands and other sun-exposed areas.
When is treatment appropriate?
Treatment is particularly suitable for signs of photoageing and impaired skin quality:
Treatment benefits
Treatment effect
Immediately after treatment, the skin may be red, slightly swollen or sensitive. Pigment spots usually darken temporarily and gradually shed over approximately 5–14 days. In the following weeks, the skin brightens and its tone becomes more even.
Initial changes are usually noticeable within one to three weeks. A series of treatments followed by maintenance care may be recommended for a more pronounced or longer-lasting result.
Targeted light treatment to reduce benign pigment spots, freckles, sun damage, diffuse redness and small dilated vessels.
What is BBL correction of pigmentation and vessels?
During treatment, a suitably selected light spectrum is absorbed by melanin in pigment spots or blood pigment in small vessels. The target structure is heated in a controlled way and subsequently gradually removed or absorbed by the body.
Before treating pigmented lesions, suspicious, atypical or unclear skin growths must be excluded. These are not treated with BBL phototherapy and must first be assessed by a dermatologist.
When is treatment appropriate?
Treatment is intended for clients with benign pigment or vascular changes:
Treatment benefits
Treatment effect
Pigment spots usually darken after treatment and may look “coffee-coloured” for several days. They then gradually shed. Vascular changes may temporarily show increased redness, swelling or more visible vessels before gradually being absorbed.
Results are usually assessed after two to four weeks. Small isolated lesions may respond after a single session, while more extensive or deeper changes may require several treatments. Rosacea is a chronic condition; BBL may alleviate its vascular signs but does not guarantee a permanent cure.
Gentle light therapy that helps alleviate active inflammatory acne, redness and recurrent breakouts on the face and body.
What is BBL acne therapy?
BBL acne therapy uses a combination of suitably selected light parameters that help affect bacteria associated with acne and soothe inflammatory and vascular skin changes. Treatment can be adapted to acne activity, skin sensitivity and the specific area.
Phototherapy may form part of a comprehensive dermatological plan. It does not replace professional diagnosis or treatment of severe acne and may not suit all types of lesions.
When is treatment appropriate?
Treatment is suitable for adolescents and adults with active mild to moderate inflammatory acne:
Treatment benefits
Treatment effect
After treatment, the skin may temporarily be red, drier or more sensitive. Some clients may experience a brief temporary worsening of breakouts. The effect develops throughout the course and is assessed by reduced inflammation, redness and frequency of new lesions.
Acne is a multifactorial condition. Results therefore also depend on hormonal influences, cosmetic and home care, medication and the overall dermatological plan.
Non-invasive treatment using controlled heating of deeper skin layers to support firmness, elasticity and a smoother appearance of the face and body.
What is BBL skin firming?
The firming BBL protocol uses light energy to gradually and controllably heat deeper skin layers while cooling the surface. The thermal stimulus supports natural remodelling processes and new collagen formation.
Treatment is primarily intended for mild to moderate loss of firmness. It does not replace a surgical lift or removal of significant excess skin, but may improve skin tension and overall appearance.
When is treatment appropriate?
Treatment is suitable for clients who want to support skin firmness non-invasively:
Treatment benefits
Treatment effect
Immediately after treatment, the skin may temporarily be red, warm or slightly swollen. These reactions usually subside within a few hours to one day.
Results develop gradually because collagen production and remodelling take time. Initial changes may be noticeable after several weeks, and the final effect is assessed some time after completing the recommended series.
