The skin is moved upwards and excess skin is removed from the area below the breasts. This is an individually selected option that complements abdominal reshaping techniques; it does not replace conventional abdominoplasty for every type of skin laxity.
It may be suitable after substantial weight loss or for persistent excess skin on the upper abdomen after previous surgery. Stable weight and health permitting surgery are required. Consultation includes assessment of scars, tissue circulation and the abdominal wall. The procedure does not automatically include repair of diastasis. In cases of infection, uncontrolled disease or high risk of impaired healing, surgery is postponed or not recommended.
It may also be suitable for upper-abdominal laxity after liposuction, especially if the skin fails to contract sufficiently after extensive fat removal. The surgeon plans any combination with liposuction or later surgery according to excess skin, tissue circulation and safe healing.
After preoperative assessment, the surgeon determines the extent and anaesthesia. Through an incision in the inframammary fold, they release and reposition upper-abdominal skin, remove the excess and close the wound. Depending on extent, the scar may continue across the centre of the torso between the breasts; complete concealment cannot be guaranteed. Suitable combination with another procedure is assessed separately. Change medicines only after doctor agreement and follow nicotine instructions.
Expect swelling, tightness and several weeks of restricted exertion. The surgeon determines wound care, any compression and return-to-work timing. Early gentle walking as recommended is appropriate, without stretching wounds. Results settle gradually and scars remain permanent. Risks include bleeding, infection, fluid accumulation, impaired healing, asymmetry, displacement of the inframammary fold and thrombosis.
