A mole is removed only surgically

Moles can be removed surgically or with professional lasers. Surgical removal of the birthmark is performed only in the case of a true birthmark - a pigmented nevus. If it is just an outgrowth or an age wart, it is removed by laser. This is a quick and easy procedure. The best time to remove moles on the face, neck or body is autumn. In our clinic we often meet patients who come for examination of their moles. During the examination, we often find that what patients often think is a “birthmark“ is just an ordinary growth or an age wart. Only after the dermoscopic examination can we decide whether a lesion should be removed for health reasons or whether the patient wants it removed for aesthetic reasons.

During the procedure

Classic moles - pigmented nevus - cannot be removed with laser, because we know how dangerous they can be. Removal is always done only surgically, with subsequent histological examination. Before surgical removal of moles, the area is anesthetized by local anesthesia, then the mole can be removed through a surgical incision and sutured intraorally. However, if the lesions are harmless and do not show signs of a classic birthmark, it is best to remove the lesion with a laser. The procedure is usually performed without local anesthesia. To increase the patient's comfort, the area can be locally anesthetized. After anesthesia, the laser head is placed on the lesion and its beam quickly and easily burns out the lesion.

Postoperative care

After laser treatment, there is a slight surface defect - a burn/singe. The high-end laser ensures that the wound does not bleed. After that, a crust is formed on the skin surface. After the crust is gone, the skin remains smooth and without scars. The whole healing process takes about 5-7 days. After the procedure, the patient can immediately play sports, go to work or take a shower without any problems.

Stitches are removed between the 7th and 14th day after the procedure. During this time, the patient should be careful not to irritate the stitches.
